It has been dark & stormy here for a few days {though I think the sun came out yesterday...I cannot even remember}. But inbetween the clouds our peonies bloomed! We planted them last year & after much anticipation the frilly pink petals are here. I look forward to having more & more each year. There is something about being able to take a few steps into your backyard & having the most beautiful flowers...& then promptly cutting them & bringing them inside!

eeeek... teach me!! i want peonies? do they like containers? *please say yes please say yes*

Hey Meg! Peonies are so easy to plant and they survive a long winter if they are planted in the ground. If you're doing containers, you could plant them now (they don't flower the first year) and then bring them in the basement during the winter months. We got the "Sarah Bernhardt" variety from gorgetopgardens.com - so many choices and very inexpensive if you order a bunch of plants (shipping is $10 for all orders). The thing about the ants is actually true. The peony buds give off a nectar that attracts ants so that they can help open the ginormous buds. It's crazy and I actually saw it happen this year! Thank you ant friends! lol.
