There are so many "titles" or "themes" that come to mind for this invitation suite because there were so many bits of inspiration behind them, but the Papel Picado is certainly the defining element. An emphasis on colors & patter were important for the bride, Harriet - they are her passion. She is currently working on her Phd in textiles, focusing on Indigenous Australian & Indonesian Ikat. She is an avid quilter using mostly her own, hand-printed fabrics as well as the ever beautiful Liberty of London fabrics. Harriet & her groom, Toby, have traveled the world & have a particular fondness of all things Mexican, especially Papel Picado. Lastly, Harriet loves hand-lettering & flourished calligraphy paired with modern, sans serif typefaces a la Penguin Classics. Do you not love a bride who knows exactly what she wants? I certainly do!
With all of this lovely inspiration my brain was going in a million different directions. We actually began with a map of the world, but changed course mid-design {no pun intended!}. To keep the map concept, I lined the envelopes with vintage oceanic maps in pretty blues, aquas, & greens. The invitation design included a Papel Picado banner with images of birds & hearts. I included their wedding date into one of the of banners filled with hearts. For the text I chose a modern sans serif typeface & paired it with the super fun Nelly Script by Crystal Kluge. I really love that calligraphers & designers are beginning to create fonts. It is a perfect way to incorporate the look of hand-lettering, but often at a more affordable price point. The invitations were letterpress printed on 100% cotton Lettra paper in bright red & aqua inks. The invitations were also lined on the back with a colorful patterned paper featuring a stylized version of a Liberty print. This paper was key in bringing together all of the colors of the invitation & envelope liner. The envelope was aqua, serving as the base color of the invitation suite.
I have no doubt Harriet & Toby's wedding is going to be an amazing, colorful, & fun fiesta in the Land Down Under!

So, so pretty!!

So lovely! Was the fabric scanned and printed for the backing?

I wanted to know if there is a way that I can purchase the graphic to make my wedding invitation. I really like how simple and elegant this is...
