Truth be told, I am having a hard time imagining myself in a long, white gown.* I have looked at a few gowns, but no serious research. I had these two images stashed away in the inspiration folder & they make me excited about finding a gown...so I can then find a cute, bright cardigan to wear over it.
As a girl who is perpetually wearing a sweater/scarf/blanket trying to plan for a potential fall wedding, a cardigan is going to be key. I like the idea of adding color to the whole white {or as I have decided in my own cause, ivory} ensemble that does not require a sash or color on the actual dress. Plus, the cardigan makes the long dress a bit more casual...something I am certainly aiming for.
*I mean this literally, not as in "I am having a hard time imagining myself standing next to the love of my life, vowing to spend the rest of our life together." Please. That is the easiest part.
Oh I LOVE the idea of a colored cardigan over my gown - too bad I didn't think of it ten years ago when I got married...

Go for it! I was inspired by the yellow cardigan too. We got married on a farm in September and I knew I'd get a little chilly, so I found a green scalloped short-sleeve sweater (on super sale) at Anthropologie. I guess it was more of a bolero since it was cropped and did not close in front. But it was the perfect addition for the reception — I really wish I hadn't bought the silk wrap matching my dress that my mom insisted on. A bit of color comes out so pretty in photos.
