This past Sunday I participated in stART on the Street, in Worcester, Massachusetts.
This was my very first craft fair & it was amazing! I did a fair amount of research & found Indie Craft Shows to be quite helpful & I read my share of posts in the Etsy forums gathering tips here & there, but in the end I did everything on a whim with the input of Rich & my mom {always good for their opinions & spell checking abilities}!
I had a spot on the side walk & decided to keep my table simple & sweet! I used a thrifted sheet & handlettered a sign {trying to match the font I used for all of my work}.
I built & painted this little holder the night before to hold notes, cards, & prints. The shelving on the right consisted of two shelves from Rich's Ikea entertainment center that were no longer being used & had a perfect ridge on top to hold cards. I tiered the shelves by placing one on a pink photo storage box.
It all came together quite nicely & once the fair got rolling it was steady business from then on! I had the opportunity to talk with a lot of people & hear some wonderful comments about my work {which is always nice to hear in person!}. I also had the chance to meet a lot of fellow artists & craftster including Sarah, one of the organizers of stART, who was so nice & did an amazing job of organizing such a big fair. I met Angela of Ambient Designs. Her display was beautiful as were her cards {a fellow goccoer, yay!} & jewlery, which you can check out at her Etsy shop. I also met Ginny of Bad Girl Designs {whose website I cannot find right now, but will post when I find her card I took} who creates super cute 50's inspired screenprinted cards.
I love, loved the work of Kelly of Tulips to Kiss. She creates beautiful etched sterling silver necklaces. She had one of this fat little bird {I am a sucker for fat birds} & a tree that I think I need! Twigs & Heather were there as well. Their sterling silver necklaces are gorgeous. I cannot even begin to decide what I like, but I like the third necklace in the twigs line & the ring from the birch line. My neighbors were Suzanne of Fusion Ethos Fasion, who recycles everyday items into wearable art & Racheal Lochner who had wheel thrown pottery & screenprinted tiles.
I have to thank Rich for getting up with me at 6:30, setting-up, & sitting with me all day, my parents for coming down from Portland & sitting with us for most of the day & for sitting at my table while I walked around, & Rich's mom {& and my mom, again} for bringing me change...the one craft fair newbie mistake I made! It was a beautiful, sunny day with so many great people, great ideas & suggestions from shoppers, & great connections. I cannot wait to participate again next year!
On to the next show! Oh yes. There is a next show. More details to follow...
Congratulations on your first craft fair! How exciting. I'm more jealous of the letterpress class you mentioned earlier though :)
