Pumpkins, squash, & gourds...it's Autumn! With an Autumn wedding in Maine, I would love to have some of these quintessential items of the season deocrating the ceremony, cocktail, & reception sites. However, I do not want just an orange pumpkin plunked down on the ground. I am loving these creative ways to pretty-up & decorate with grourds. There is something so elegant & vintage about the lace-patterned pumpkins & the toadstool pumkins are completely adorable for a woodlands-inspired wedding. Continuing with my garland love, these simply strung gourds add a touch of rustic charm & are super simple to make. The gourd lights would be perfect for a tented or outdoor wedding. I better invest in some carving tools!
I saw Martha making a gourd snail on TV. Pretty effing cute. :)

(saw your blog through the fat orange cat link)
We had an October wedding and did two fun things with pumpkins. One, we bought about 40 pumpkins and had a pizza and beer party two nights before the wedding for local friends and anyone already arrived. Our attendants gutted them (their only major job!) and it was a big carving party - there was no official edict, but lots of the pumpkins ended up being love-themed or having things we like carved into them. We brought them to the wedding site and the caterers lit them up and used them for decoration!
Also, we bought little gourds and tied all the placecards to them. It was fun!

The ideas for fall decoration are great. One of my favorite fall centerpieces to make involves carving a small pumpkin, inserting an oasis (a piece of green sponge that holds a lot of water and keeps flower in place) and then creating a display of wildflowers inside the pumpkin.
