Hello! Last week I shared the inspiration behind & invitations for my Memere & Pepere's 70th Wedding Anniversary Celebration. Today I have our inspriation realized!
My sister, Jess of Nothing Bakes Like a Parrott designed the dessert table & did all of the baking. She created seven mini layered-cakes. The flavors included German Chocolate cake with Pecan-Coconut frosting, Orange-Spiced Carrot cake with Cream Cheese frosting, Coconut cake with Coconut buttercream, Chocolate cake with Peanut Butter frosting, Spice cake with fresh Applesauce filling & buttercream, Chocolate cake with Raspberry filling & Chocolate ganache, & Red Velvet cake with Cream Cheese frosting. Gah! It was dessert heaven!
Jess & my mom collected various silver cake stands for each of the seven cakes. They also used cake stands & kraft paper-covered boxes to display the white pumpkins behind the cakes. The used orange mums wrapped in chartreuse burlap to add a pop of color to the table. Jess hand-painted the burlap pennants with Memere & Pepere's initials {fun fact: she recycled burlap from the table runners at our wedding!}. On either end of the table they framed two photos of Memere & Pepere cutting their wedding cake, 70 years before!
The celebration was intimate with 50 family & friends, so there were five tables. Each table had a white pumpkin on various silver cake stands with a vine of green leaves & bittersweet. The cake stands stood atop a deep green piece of super-thick felt cut to look like lace. Peeking through the felt was a silver-beaded charger {recycled from Jess's wedding the year before!}. The table numbers were held with a little spiral of silver wire stuck in a mini-white pumpkin. Around the centerpieces were seven small votive holders with black & white lace patterns. Each guest took home one of Jess's famous Maine whoopie pies, which was on each guests' place setting.
Not pictured was a display at the entry of the room that Jess & my mom created of old photos of Memere & Pepere from their days of dating {75 years ago!} to their wedding; from their four daughters to their seven grandchildren & sevent great-grandchildren; from setting-up their first house to their condo in Florida. It was a wonderful trip down Memory Lane!
Here they are today! This photo was taken on their porch with their backyard & the Piscataqua River {which divides New Hamphsire & Maine} in the background after the celebration. Here's to hoping we can all be as happy, fortunate, & blessed as Leo & Beatrice!
OMG, I love that table! Yum, yum, yum!
